Melanie is a master's-level clinical intern at Roosevelt University and earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of New Mexico. She believes therapy can be deeply transformative when people feel genuinely seen, heard, and accepted, especially during life's most vulnerable moments. She approaches therapy with curiosity, compassion, collaboration, and respect, recognizing that healing happens within the context of each person's relationships, culture, and lived experiences.
As a biracial Filipino-Polish queer woman, Melanie's lived experiences have shaped the way she understands identity, belonging, and healing. The complexities of navigating her own culture, belonging, and family systems have helped her understand distress as something that is contextual, rather than individual. These experiences have made her aware of the ways people adapt for survival and how systems, relationships, and intergenerational experiences shape the way distress is experienced and expressed. This lens informs her commitment to approaching clients with curiosity, humility, and respect for the contexts that have shaped them.
Melanie hopes to support clients in reconnecting with themselves in ways that feel authentic, compassionate, and aligned with their values. She is especially passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ individuals and other marginalized communities, as well as those navigating mood and anxiety difficulties, identity exploration, and life transitions. She believes healing is not about "fixing" people, but about understanding how they adapted to survive and creating space for new ways of relating to themselves and others.
Her clinical interests include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), trauma-informed approaches, and attachment-based work. She is especially drawn to non-pathologizing and culturally responsive approaches that recognize each person's experiences within broader relational and systemic contexts. With a belief that therapy should be collaborative and tailored to each person's unique needs, Melanie draws from these approaches to support clients in ways that feel authentic, affirming, and responsive to their goals.
“I sincerely believe that there is a time in life for drifting. There is a time for sitting back and getting in touch with yourself. Some of our most interesting illuminations and ideas will come when we take time to reflect, time to kick back and cruise awhile.”
